LUCKY NUMBER 9
Last year, I was a volunteer for my Block Association in New York City. The mission of the Association is for residents and business owners to work together to keep the block clean, beautiful and safe. Plus it’s great getting to know each other.
I was inspired by the Association’s 9th Street logo and pitched a fundraising idea. A tote bag with a twist…
As an artist, in this case a graphic designer, I love a challenge of making an old or classic concept contemporary. Respecting the integrity of an original concept, but putting a new twist on it…
I submitted four colorful, patterned options of the logo to the Association’s leadership. Option four was chosen and the update was embroidered on a ‘special edition’ Land’s End tote for sale to members and supporters of the community.

The bags were well received by the residents and we were able to bring some extra operating funds into the organization. A way for artist to use their talents to make a positive difference in their communities.
